The Ruston Sports Complex would like to make visitors aware of our lightning policy and procedure. During a storm, the Sports Complex’s multiple lightning detectors will automatically activate. If a lightning strike is detected within a 5-mile radius, these detectors will send off audible sirens throughout the facility. Once this siren goes off all visitors must exit the gates and seek safe shelter. Lightning delays are 30 minutes. Every strike within a 5-mile radius will restart the 30-minute countdown to resume play. Once a 30-minute span passes with zero lighting strikes, Complex staff, league directors, and event coordinators will notify everyone that play can resume.<\/span><\/div>\n

Purpose<\/h4>\n

The Ruston Sports Complex fields have been designed and are maintained for the enjoyment and use of the City of Ruston residents and its partners. The purpose of this policy is to guide the use of City athletic fields, to prevent injuries and damage to the playing surface brought upon by inclement weather and\/or unsafe playing conditions. An effective field maintenance program is essential for safe, quality fields and sport complexes. User groups are asked to help us by accepting and adhering to these rules. Groups who use the Sports Complex athletic facilities are expected to assist in protecting their participants and fields during periods of inclement weather.<\/p>\n

Policy<\/h4>\n

The Ruston Sports Complex reserves the right to cancel or suspend outdoor facility or field use permits for games, practices and other uses whenever weather conditions could result in injury to players or damage to the fields. Permits may also be cancelled when the health and safety of participants are threatened due to impending conditions.<\/p>\n

Procedure<\/h4>\n

The Director or designated representative shall have the authority to close any or all fields within The Ruston Sports Complex.
